Senator John Fetterman and his wife, Gisele, were involved in a car crash on Sunday night on Interstate 70 in Maryland. The incident occurred in the westbound lanes of I-70, near I-68, between Pennsylvania and West Virginia. According to police reports, a Chevrolet Traverse driven by Fetterman was traveling at a high rate of speed, well over the posted speed limit, when it rear-ended a Chevrolet Impala.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene, and all parties involved, including Fetterman, Gisele, and the other motorist, were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. In a video released by the senator on Monday evening, Fetterman and his wife thanked well-wishers and revealed that they were celebrating their 16th wedding anniversary at the time of the crash.
This is not the first instance of unsafe driving behavior by Senator Fetterman. Earlier this year, he pleaded guilty to a speeding citation for driving 34 mph above the speed limit in Pennsylvania. Additionally, reports indicate that Fetterman received another speeding ticket in 2016 for driving at least 24 mph above the speed limit.
Allegations have also surfaced regarding Fetterman's distracted driving habits, with claims that he has been on FaceTime and texting while behind the wheel. Staff members reportedly expressed concerns about his behavior, with some stating that they avoid messaging Fetterman when he is driving due to his alleged history of answering texts while on the road.
A spokesperson for Senator Fetterman dismissed these allegations as 'gossip and inaccurate,' though declined to provide further details. The incident has raised questions about road safety and responsible driving practices, particularly for public figures like Senator Fetterman.
