Senator Cornyn supports Texas' efforts to secure the southern border

Joe Biden has embraced open border policies that have led to mass immigration.

Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn expressed his support for Texas Governor Greg Abbott's efforts to protect the state from illegal immigration during an interview on a news program. Cornyn highlighted that while the federal government has the tools to enforce the law and secure the border, President Joe Biden has abdicated his responsibility and embraced open border policies. The senator emphasized that unless there are consequences for entering the country illegally, the influx of hundreds of thousands of people each month will continue.

Cornyn also addressed Vice President Kamala Harris's role in dealing with immigration issues. He noted that Harris, who was originally designated to address the root causes of immigration, failed to take action despite the opportunity presented by the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, and the Senate majority leader, Chuck Schumer. The senator emphasized that the laws concerning immigration have not substantially changed since President Trump was in office, and therefore, enforcing the existing laws should be the priority.

The interview also touched on the political implications of the immigration issue. Charlamagne Tha God, a radio show host, expressed his observation that many working-class individuals, who he interacts with daily, have expressed frustration regarding immigration. This sentiment could potentially impact the upcoming elections.

Regarding the ongoing negotiations on a border bill, Cornyn acknowledged the potential for progress. He expressed his willingness to support measures that could assist President Trump in securing the border during his potential next term in office. The senator emphasized the need for discussion and debate to find solutions that will make improvements in the interim while also addressing the concerns of conservative colleagues who believe the current bill may not be effective in bringing about meaningful change.

In conclusion, Senator Cornyn voiced his support for Governor Abbott's efforts to defend Texas from illegal immigration and criticized President Biden for his failure to enforce border security. He highlighted the missed opportunities by Vice President Harris and the Democratic leaders in Congress to address the immigration issue. Cornyn emphasized the importance of enforcing existing laws and expressed a willingness to consider measures that could improve border security in the future.
