During the Democratic National Convention, California Democratic Sen. Laphonza Butler delivered a passionate speech in support of Vice President Kamala Harris as a presidential candidate. Butler highlighted Harris's ability to unite the country and fight for the rights of others.

Butler emphasized Harris's unwavering belief that the best days for America are still ahead. Drawing parallels between their backgrounds, Butler noted that both she and Harris were raised by single mothers and attended historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

As a former prosecutor, Harris was portrayed as someone who prioritized accountability, even when it meant taking on powerful entities such as big banks and corporations. Butler recounted Harris's courtroom mantra of 'Kamala Harris, for the people,' which she viewed as a rallying cry for justice.

Butler criticized Republicans for what she described as deceiving young individuals seeking education and mistreating hard-working laborers. She directly called out former President Donald Trump, asserting that the country deserves a leader who is not just tough-talking but genuinely tough in action.

In her closing remarks, Butler emphasized the need for a president who can push the boundaries of what is achievable, rather than the boundaries of what is permissible by law. She concluded by reiterating the call for a leader who embodies strength, unity, and a commitment to justice.
