Senate Majority Leader John Thune announced today that the Senate will be taking up the GOP's budget resolution this week. This marks the initial step in moving forward with President Donald Trump's ambitious agenda, a process that is expected to unfold over the course of several months.

The Senate GOP's budget plan is more focused compared to the broader proposal put forth by House Republicans. Both chambers will need to reconcile their differences and agree on a single budget resolution before proceeding to draft the specific legislation.

The House still needs to vote on their budget blueprint, which was approved by the House Budget Committee last week. Meanwhile, the Senate is anticipated to pass its budget plan later this week.

Senator Thune emphasized key priorities such as securing the border, strengthening defense, and promoting American energy independence as integral components of the budget resolution.

Once the Senate moves to consider the budget measure, there will be a period of 50 hours allocated for debate, followed by a series of votes on amendments, commonly referred to as a 'vote-a-rama.' These votes are often contentious and strategically aimed at placing opponents in challenging political positions.

It is important to note that this budget resolution is distinct from the government funding bill required to keep federal agencies operational beyond March 14.
