In response to a specific infrastructure challenge, Duffy committed to initiating efforts to rebuild a section of Interstate 40 near the North Carolina-Tennessee border that was severely damaged by Hurricane Helene in September. He assured lawmakers that this project would be a top priority to restore vital transportation links in the region.
Meanwhile, President Trump visited North Carolina recently and promised reforms to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in light of its response to the hurricane recovery efforts in the state. Trump expressed his commitment to expediting the restoration process and addressing the significant damage caused by the natural disaster. He criticized FEMA for what he perceived as shortcomings in its assistance to the affected communities.
