Senate Republicans are working towards confirming President Donald Trump's top national security nominees this week, according to Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso. The nominees in question include Pete Hegseth for secretary of defense, Kristi Noem for homeland security secretary, and John Ratcliffe for the position of CIA director.
Barrasso emphasized the importance of having a complete security team in place and expressed the Senate's commitment to expediting the confirmation process. He stated, 'Our focus is making sure he has a security team in place.'
The Senate plans to prioritize the confirmation of the secretary of homeland security, secretary of defense, and the CIA director within the current week. Barrasso confirmed, 'We're going to move to the secretary of homeland security, we're going to continue to work with the secretary of defense — try to get that done this week. We want to get the CIA director done this week as well.'
Earlier on Tuesday, Marco Rubio was sworn in as secretary of state following a unanimous confirmation vote, further highlighting the Senate's efforts to fill key national security positions swiftly.
