Senate Majority Leader John Thune highlighted the significant progress being made by the Republican-led Senate in conducting confirmation hearings for President-elect Donald Trump's Cabinet nominees. Thune emphasized that the Senate had a record-breaking six confirmation hearings in a single day, the most since 2001, with more scheduled for the following days.
Thune stated that by the time President Trump is inaugurated on Monday, the Senate will have held hearings for 12 of his nominees, indicating that there are additional hearings in the pipeline. He expressed hope that Democrats would cooperate to expedite the confirmation process and enable the nominees to commence their duties promptly for the benefit of the American people.
Thune also praised Sen. Marco Rubio, who underwent a confirmation hearing for the position of secretary of state. Thune commended Rubio's moral clarity, describing him as an ideal candidate for the role.
