Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee are urging the Trump administration to release records pertaining to the dismissal of senior FBI and Justice Department officials involved in investigations related to President Donald Trump. They are also seeking information on the potential termination of FBI agents who probed the January 6, 2021, US Capitol riot.
In letters addressed to Trump's nominees for FBI and DOJ leadership positions, as well as the acting heads of these agencies, the Democrats emphasized that while President Trump secured victory in the 2024 presidential election, he lacks the authority to dismantle the federal civil service or replace career officials at the DOJ with individuals chosen solely for their loyalty to him rather than their commitment to upholding the Constitution and laws of the United States.
