The Senate has voted 53-47 along party lines to confirm Russ Vought as the director of the Office of Management and Budget. The confirmation followed a marathon protest by Senate Democrats, who held the floor overnight in a series of speeches opposing Vought's nomination.
Vought's nomination drew criticism from Democrats due to his association with the conservative policy blueprint Project 2025 and his assertion that the 2020 election was 'rigged.' Democrats also raised concerns about a recent OMB memo freezing federal funding, which was later rescinded, as an indication of how the office might operate under Vought's leadership.
As OMB director, Vought will play a significant role in implementing President Donald Trump's agenda. This confirmation marks Trump's 13th nominee to be confirmed since taking office on January 20.

The marathon protest began on Wednesday at 2:17 p.m. ET, with Democrats delivering hours of speeches to oppose Vought's nomination. Despite their efforts, the Senate ultimately voted to confirm Vought after the 30-hour debate limit expired.
During the confirmation vote, Democrats stood up and cast their votes as a group, with each senator citing reasons for their opposition. Republican Senator Eric Schmitt's vote in favor of Vought was met with objections from Democrats, who called for 'regular order.'
The confirmation of Russ Vought as OMB director signals a key development in the Trump administration's efforts to advance its policy priorities.
