The Senate confirmed Jamieson Greer as the US trade representative on Wednesday with a vote of 56-43. Notably, five Democrats, including Sens. John Fetterman, John Hickenlooper, Gary Peters, Elissa Slotkin, and Sheldon Whitehouse, voted in favor, while GOP Sen. Rand Paul voted against the confirmation.
Greer is the 21st nominee of President Donald Trump to be confirmed since the inauguration. In his new role, Greer will serve as the US lead negotiator as the Trump administration utilizes tariffs and trade strategies in negotiations with countries like China, Canada, Mexico, and others. Prior to this appointment, Greer served as the chief of staff to Robert Lighthizer, who was the trade representative during Trump's first term.

Before his government service, Greer was a partner on the international trade team at the law firm King & Spalding. His responsibilities included handling cases related to trade policy and trade agreement enforcement. He also has a background in private practice focusing on trade matters and has served in the US Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps, with a deployment to Iraq during his military service.
