The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee unanimously approved Sean Duffy’s nomination to be secretary of transportation on Wednesday. The vote was 28-0, with bipartisan support from both Democrats and Republicans.
About Sean Duffy
Sean Duffy served in the US House of Representatives from 2011 to 2019, representing Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District. He is known for his previous roles as co-host of Fox Business’ “The Bottom Line” and as a contributor on Fox News. Duffy gained initial fame from his appearance on MTV’s “The Real World: Boston” in 1997.
Despite his lack of experience in the transportation field, Duffy’s nomination has advanced to the Senate floor for consideration.
Challenges and Responsibilities

If confirmed, Duffy would oversee transportation projects involving companies led by Elon Musk, a close ally of former President Trump. Musk’s companies hold significant federal contracts, including with the Department of Transportation.
The new secretary of transportation will face various safety-related challenges in aviation, particularly concerning Boeing’s quality control and manufacturing issues. Additionally, there are looming threats of airline labor union strikes and a growing focus on climate initiatives such as electric vehicles and charging stations.
As Duffy prepares to potentially take on this role, he will need to navigate these complex issues and work towards ensuring the safety and efficiency of the nation’s transportation systems.
