The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee recently voted 13-9 to move forward with the nomination of former Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer as the next Secretary of the Department of Labor. This decision paves the way for her nomination to be considered on the Senate floor.
Despite opposition from GOP Sen. Rand Paul, who cited Chavez-DeRemer's past support for the PRO Act as a concern, the nomination was able to progress with the backing of Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan. Sen. Hassan expressed her confidence in Chavez-DeRemer's qualifications after meeting with her and listening to her testimony during the confirmation hearing.

In a statement, Sen. Hassan stated, 'Though we may not agree on everything, I believe that she is qualified to serve as the next Secretary of Labor and I look forward to working with her to support New Hampshire’s workers and small businesses.'
The nomination of Lori Chavez-DeRemer has sparked discussions and debates among senators, highlighting differing perspectives on her suitability for the role. The decision to advance her nomination underscores the importance of bipartisan cooperation in the confirmation process.
