Former President Donald Trump is currently narrowing down his list of potential running mates for the upcoming 2024 campaign, with Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas reportedly emerging as a top contender, as per a recent report from The New York Times.
According to sources close to Trump, Sen. Cotton is gaining favor due to his perceived reliability and clear communication of policy positions. Both Trump and Cotton have refrained from confirming or denying any speculations regarding the senator's potential role in a hypothetical second Trump administration.
Sen. Cotton expressed that only Trump knows the true composition of his shortlist, emphasizing their discussions on strategies to secure victory in the upcoming election and restore what he perceives as damage caused by President Biden's term.
Several former adversaries of Trump, such as Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, and former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, are also being considered as key vice-presidential candidates. Additionally, Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio has been mentioned as a potential contender.
While former primary opponent Nikki Haley has been ruled out as a vice-presidential candidate, Trump's final selection is expected to be unveiled at the Republican National Convention scheduled for July.
