In a statement, Senator Young emphasized the importance of backing American intelligence officers worldwide. He commended Gabbard for her engagement on various issues, ensuring that intelligence professionals receive support and policymakers access unbiased information under her leadership.
Senator Young, a former Marine Corps intelligence officer, highlighted his commitment to national security. He stated that he followed the Framers' vision for senators to engage in the consultative process to secure commitments that advance national security. Having obtained these commitments, he pledged his support for Gabbard's nomination and anticipated collaborating with her to safeguard national security.
Gabbard's path to confirmation hinges on garnering the support of all Republicans on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. However, her advancement to a confirmation vote on the Senate floor may be jeopardized if she fails to secure any Democratic votes. As of now, no Democrats on the committee have endorsed her for the role.
