Senator Ted Cruz of Texas has called for two illegal immigrants charged with the killing of a 12-year-old Houston girl to be sentenced to death if convicted for the crime. The tragic incident involved Johan Jose Martinez Rangel, 22, and Franklin Pena, 26, both from Venezuela, who are facing capital murder charges in connection with the death of Jocelyn Nungaray.
Senator Cruz attributed the blame for the young girl's death to President Biden's border policies, stating that Jocelyn Nungaray would still be alive if not for the current administration's open border approach. The suspects were seen with Nungaray on the night of the incident near a bridge before she was found strangled to death in a creek.
According to Harris County Assistant District Attorney Michael Abner, the defendants allegedly lured the victim under a bridge, where they spent over two hours with her, leading to her tragic demise. Both suspects had entered the United States illegally through Texas, as confirmed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
ICE revealed that Martinez was apprehended near El Paso on March 14 and released the same day, while Pena was apprehended on May 28 and also released on the day of his arrest. The Department of Homeland Security expressed condolences to Nungaray's family and emphasized the need for full prosecution of those responsible for such heinous crimes.
Senator Cruz called on President Biden to reinstate the Remain in Mexico policy, which requires migrants applying for asylum to stay in Mexico during their U.S. court proceedings. Cruz emphasized the urgency of taking decisive actions to prevent further loss of innocent lives due to criminal activities involving illegal immigrants.
