On Tuesday, Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin emphasized the importance of Democrats' education agenda during a round table discussion with Wisconsin teachers. The event took place on the same day as the statewide primary elections, including the race for Baldwin's Senate seat.
Baldwin highlighted the Democratic Party's historical support for educators in Wisconsin, noting the state's current Governor, Tony Evers, and the potential vice presidential candidate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, both with backgrounds in public education.
During the hour-long discussion with teachers and social workers in Green Bay, Baldwin actively listened to their concerns regarding staffing shortages, teacher pay, and school funding. She engaged with the participants by asking questions and taking notes by hand.
The senator pledged to continue advocating for increased funding for public education and to safeguard the Department of Education from what she described as the 'existential threat' posed by President Donald Trump and her likely Republican opponent, Eric Hovde, in the upcoming Senate race.
Hovde, endorsed by President Trump in Wisconsin's Republican Senate primary, is competing against two GOP challengers. Polls in the state closed at 8 p.m. central time, with Baldwin, a two-term senator, running unopposed in her primary.
