Oklahoma Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin recently spoke out in defense of secretary of defense nominee Pete Hegseth during a Saturday interview. Mullin acknowledged that Hegseth “isn’t without fault” but expressed confidence in his ability to grow from past mistakes.
When questioned about the various allegations against Hegseth, including infidelity, alcohol use, and sexual misconduct, Mullin emphasized the importance of admitting and learning from one's mistakes. He stated, “Here’s a guy that isn’t without fault, but he’s admitted he’s made a mistake. And when you can admit you made a mistake … you can grow from it.”
While Hegseth has denied the claims made against him, Mullin highlighted the value in how Hegseth has taken ownership of his past actions. Mullin noted that Hegseth has adamantly refuted some of the allegations as false and anonymous, while also acknowledging his past behavior.
In addition to discussing Hegseth, Mullin also supported President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to move Monday’s inauguration ceremony indoors due to cold weather concerns. Mullin expressed regret that the traditional swearing-in ceremony would not be visible to the American people but commended the president for prioritizing safety while still extending invitations to attendees.
