Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, was involved in a car accident that resulted in injuries to himself, his wife, and another driver, as per authorities in a police report.
The incident occurred early Sunday in Maryland on westbound Interstate 70 at Interstate 68, situated between Pennsylvania and West Virginia. According to a preliminary investigation detailed in a six-page Maryland State Police report obtained by USA Today, a Chevrolet Traverse driven by Fetterman was traveling at a high rate of speed, well above the posted speed limit, when it rear-ended a Chevrolet Impala around 7:45 a.m.
The collision took place on Interstate-70 in Hancock, Maryland, with Fetterman being behind the wheel of the Traverse that struck the rear of the Chevrolet Impala. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
USA Today has reached out to a spokesperson for Fetterman for further comment on the incident. Fetterman, aged 54, posted a video on X on Monday evening alongside his wife Gisele, expressing gratitude for the well-wishes they received and mentioning that they were commemorating their 16th wedding anniversary when the accident occurred.
Following the crash, Fetterman was treated for a bruised shoulder, as confirmed by his spokesperson to the newspaper. In his message, the senator conveyed, 'You might have heard G and I were in a car accident yesterday. Thank you all for the well wishes. Not the best way to spend our 16th wedding anniversary but we’re doing well and happy to be back home in Braddock with the family.'
