Senator Martin Heinrich, a Democrat from New Mexico, has joined the ranks of fellow party members in urging President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race. Heinrich, who is up for reelection, stated that while the decision ultimately rests with President Biden, he believes it is in the best interest of the country for him to step aside.

In his statement, Heinrich emphasized that by passing the torch to a candidate who can best defeat Donald Trump and safeguard the future of democracy, President Biden would secure his legacy as one of the nation's greatest leaders. This call for Biden to step aside comes as the Democratic Party seeks to unite behind a candidate with a stronger chance of winning the upcoming election.

Growing calls within the Democratic Party for Biden to reconsider his candidacy.

Senator Heinrich is not alone in his stance, as he joins Senators Peter Welch of Vermont and Jon Tester of Montana, as well as more than two dozen House Democrats, in publicly calling on President Biden to reconsider his candidacy. The growing chorus of voices within the Democratic Party reflects concerns about Biden's ability to secure victory in the face of a competitive race.

Recent polling conducted by the National Republican Senatorial Committee and GOP nominee Nella Domenici's campaign has shown Senator Heinrich in a margin-of-error race with his Republican challenger. Despite the close competition, Democrats remain confident about their prospects for retaining the Senate seat in New Mexico.

As the 2024 presidential race continues to unfold, the pressure on President Biden to reassess his candidacy is mounting within his own party. The coming weeks will likely see further developments as Democrats seek to position themselves for success in the upcoming election.
