Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina clarified on Sunday that former President Donald Trump is not reconsidering JD Vance as his running mate despite recent controversy surrounding Vance's comments.
In a 2021 interview with Tucker Carlson that resurfaced recently, Vance used the term 'childless cat ladies' to refer to Vice President Kamala Harris and other politicians without biological children. This sparked widespread backlash from fellow politicians and celebrities like Jennifer Aniston.
Vance later defended his comments, stating that his criticism was aimed at the Democratic Party for being 'anti-family' rather than targeting individuals who do not have children.
When questioned about whether Trump was reevaluating his choice of Vance as a running mate in light of the backlash, Graham, who also does not have children, responded with a firm 'not at all.'
Graham highlighted Vance's compelling life story, emphasizing his achievements such as serving in Iraq, attending Yale Law School, and becoming a Marine. Graham expressed his support for Vance and Trump, citing reasons related to safety, prosperity, and security.
While acknowledging the importance of being mindful of others' feelings, Graham defended Vance's interviews, noting that Vance was discussing the Democratic Party's alleged departure from traditional family values.
