Democratic Sen.-elect Adam Schiff of California recently called for the release of a House Ethics Committee report on former Congressman Matt Gaetz, who withdrew himself from consideration for US attorney general. Schiff emphasized the importance of public accountability, stating that taxpayers deserve to see the analysis and report they funded.
The ethics probe was investigating allegations of sexual misconduct and other wrongdoing by Gaetz, including claims of engaging in sexual activities with a minor. Gaetz has consistently denied these allegations.
Regarding President-elect Donald Trump's Cabinet selections, Schiff expressed concerns about Tulsi Gabbard, Trump's choice for director of national intelligence, citing her lack of experience and raising questions about her positions on Russia and Syria.
On the other hand, Schiff had positive remarks about Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, Trump's nominee for secretary of state. He praised Rubio's qualifications for the role, describing him as immensely well-suited for the position.
While acknowledging Rubio's qualifications, Schiff also mentioned the importance of asking questions and not making premature judgments. He indicated a willingness to engage in further discussions to gain a better understanding of Rubio's potential role as secretary of state.
