Sen. Cornyn: Trump Administration Unlikely To Ignore Court Rulings

Trump's inaugural ceremony.

Republican Senator John Cornyn recently addressed concerns regarding the Trump administration's approach to federal court rulings. He referenced the landmark 1805 case of Marbury vs Madison, which established the principle of judicial review over the actions of the other branches of government.

Senator Cornyn emphasized the importance of upholding the Constitution as the law of the land and highlighted the role of the judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court, in interpreting the Constitution. He expressed confidence in the judicial system's ability to uphold the rule of law.

Regarding the selection of judges, Senator Cornyn raised concerns about what he referred to as 'venue shopping,' where litigants choose judges they believe will be sympathetic to their cases. He stressed the need for impartiality and fairness in the judicial process.

When asked about the possibility of the Trump administration ignoring federal court decisions, Senator Cornyn stated that he did not believe it was a significant risk. He pointed to the appellate process, noting that cases could be appealed to higher courts for final decisions.

Senator Cornyn, a former Texas state judge and member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, expressed confidence that decisions made by the circuit courts and the Supreme Court would be respected and followed.

On the issue of dismantling federal agencies without congressional approval, Senator Cornyn suggested that such matters would likely be subject to legal scrutiny and could end up in court. He characterized the oversight as an audit to ensure proper use of funds and prevent misappropriation.

Overall, Senator Cornyn's remarks underscored the importance of upholding the rule of law, respecting judicial decisions, and ensuring accountability in government actions.
