Republican Senator John Cornyn expressed his inclination to support President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for FBI director, Kash Patel. The decision came after a discussion between the two about the importance of restoring the FBI's reputation as a non-partisan law enforcement agency.
Senator Cornyn, representing Texas, stated that he believes Mr. Patel will be confirmed as the next FBI director. He emphasized the need to ensure that the FBI remains a non-partisan investigative body.
Senator Cornyn mentioned that he is inclined to support Patel, barring any unforeseen circumstances. If confirmed, Patel would replace current FBI Director Christopher Wray, who was appointed by President Trump.
Senator Cornyn indicated that he was unaware of Wray's plans but expects Patel to be confirmed. He stressed the importance of Patel being truthful with the President if he assumes the role of FBI director.
Senator Joni Ernst also expressed her support for Patel, sharing a photo from their meeting and stating that he would bring much-needed transparency to the FBI. She highlighted Patel's commitment to reforming federal agencies and reducing bureaucracy in Washington, D.C.
Following a meeting with Senator Ernst, Patel described the encounter as 'wonderful.' The discussions between Senators Cornyn, Ernst, and Patel suggest growing support for Patel's nomination as FBI director.
