Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal has formally requested the leaders of the Senate Armed Services Committee to secure and disclose records from two veterans groups previously overseen by Pete Hegseth, including credit card transactions.
In an official letter to the committee, Blumenthal, a committee member, emphasized the importance of accessing all relevant documentation related to Hegseth's leadership of the Veterans for Freedom (V.F.F.) from 2007 to 2011 and Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) from 2013 to 2016. Blumenthal stated, 'Accusations of Mr. Hegseth’s serious financial abuse and gross misconduct make it imperative that the Committee thoroughly review these claims before considering his nomination.'
The call for records follows allegations of mismanagement during Hegseth's time at the helm of the organizations, as detailed in a recent investigation by The New Yorker. Despite the accusations, Hegseth has refuted the claims.
Today, Hegseth is scheduled to meet with key Republican senators on Capitol Hill as he remains determined to secure the nomination, declaring his intent to 'fight like hell' for the position.
