Semi-Retired LA Sheriff's Deputy Missing In Greece

Florida Sheriffs Association

A semi-retired Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy, Albert Calibet, remains missing after disappearing during a vacation in Greece. The 59-year-old was last seen embarking on a four-hour hike across the Greek island of Amorgos on June 11. Calibet, a regular visitor to the island for years, was scheduled to meet a friend later that day.

Calibet's sister-in-law, Sandrine Cutright, described his annual trips to Greece as a way to unwind and disconnect from his busy life as an L.A. County sheriff's deputy. Despite his experience as a seasoned hiker, concerns arose when he failed to return from his hike, prompting his friend to report him missing.

Calibet's loved ones are actively involved in the search efforts, with his brother Oliver Calibet traveling to Greece to assist. The search has been challenging due to the remote location of Amorgos, a small island with limited resources. The disappearance has left family and friends puzzled, speculating on various scenarios that could have led to Calibet's vanishing.

Adding to the urgency is the extreme heatwave gripping the region, making the search even more critical. The situation is reminiscent of another recent hiking tragedy in Greece, where a British TV presenter was found dead after going missing on a hike.

Calibet's friends and family are appealing for assistance from anyone with resources such as drones and flashlights to aid in the search efforts. As time ticks by, the collective hope is to locate Calibet swiftly and bring him back to safety.
