Selling Sunset's Mary says new role is 'a headache' amid 'shocking' season 5

Selling Sunset star Mary Fitzgerald has opened up about her new role at The Oppenheim Group and described it as a "headache".

Fans of the hit Netflix show got a glimpse of Mary in action as Vice President in the explosive season 5 trailer, but it seems it's not all fun and games.

In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, Mary spoke about what her role entails and what viewers can expect from the fifth season.

"It came about because Jason [Oppenheim] is spending a lot of time down in the OC office and someone needs to kind of keep order in this office and I'm honoured and just grateful that he trusted me to do it.

"But the back part about it is I need to try and keep control of some of the people that are hard to control.

"It's a headache but it's also really cool at the time. For the most part, all of the girls are extremely respectful and super excited for me," Mary revealed.

Asked about the comment she made in the Season 5 trailer about starting a "clean slate", she told us: "Season five is going to have a lot of surprises, a lot going on.

"I can't say that everyone is on a clean slate but there is a lot of effort to achieve that. It's gonna be shocking!"

Mary is perhaps referring to the ongoing feud between Christine Quinn and Chrishell Stause.

In one snippet of the season 5 trailer, Christine implies that Chrishell is only getting more listings because she is "f**king" boss Jason.

Referring to Christine's comments, Mary said: "I think it's very unfair, and it's hard for me because when I have to be in the office, I have to put my friendships and my personal feelings aside and focus on what's best for the brokerage and how to fix problems.

"Obviously I have personal feelings, I have a history there and I want to protect my friends but I have to be very neutral and just try to figure out how to solve the problem and make it better," Mary added.

However, Mary was quick to point out that there isn't a reconciliation on the cards for her and Christine.

"I'm sad. I wish she could have just... I don't know, stopped," Mary explained. "I just don't know what she's doing, we're very confused."

The real estate agent then referenced co-star Davina Potratz, who was also pals with Christine - and not much of a fan favourite.

"Like Davina, she saw this wasn't working, this isn't the relationship she wants with everybody and she got a lot of criticism... from my husband definitely!" Mary explained.

"Also from viewers and she's like, 'this isn't what I want', so she did some self reflection and she's made a serious effort to try to be better and more positive and to just change.

"And I wish Christine would do the same, I really do, because I loved her and I wish I could have that with Christine back, but I don't see it happening," she added.

Selling Sunset Season 5 drops on Netflix on Friday 22 April, 2022.
