Two community councils in Ayrshire have this week hit out at selfish dog walkers who are failing to pick up after their pet pooches.
Monkton Community Council say there’s been an “increasing amount” of dog dirt on their patch, while Dailly Community Council has highlighted the village’s community garden as a ‘problem area.’
In a statement from Monkton Community Council, the group said: “An increasing amount of dog waste is being left on our footpaths and public areas.
“To ensure that our local areas are kept clean and everyone can enjoy spending time outdoors without being exposed to risk of disease and infection from dog waste, enforcement patrols have now recommenced a fixed penalty notice of £80 if you don’t pick up your dog’s waste.
“We’re asking everyone to respect South Ayrshire, be a responsible dog owner, bag it, bin it and please put your bagged waste into any public waste bin or green bin at home.”
And at Dailly Community Council, the group admitted: “People are using the community garden as a shortcut and allowing their dogs to foul there.
“If you bring your dog to the garden please ensure that they are kept on leads and are always picked up after. There is a dog waste bin by the community hall (black litter and dog waste bin) and on the corner of the memorial park (red dog waste bin).
“Dog waste must be picked up and disposed of everywhere in the village. Dog fouling is an offence and you can be fined.
“Please be respectful of both the property and the hard work that goes into the community garden, it is not a cut through to the river, nor a public dog walking area.”
