Self taught baker, 22, opens third shop after employing her 'best friends'

A young self-taught baker has opened up her third location in two years after she hired her best friends.

Leanne Prescott started her business, Cake Corner, on Instagram but after it became a hit it quickly grew. She managed to open her own shop on Liverpool Road in Southport at the age of 20 before getting a spot in the refurbished Southport Market.

The 22-year-old has now added a third location in Ormskirk Market - and she has no intention of stopping there. She told the ECHO: "It doesn't feel real.

"We opened in Southport Market and when we opened the second it was amazing. It really is surreal, it doesn't even feel like it's all mine, to be honest. It helps that I have a really great team.

"I've got two of my best friends from school working for me and I couldn't do it without them. We have about 16 people working here now but some are at university as well."

Leanne spent most of her teenage years playing in different football academies across the North West from Manchester United to Everton. After three years Leanne, with help from her mum, Petula, and dad, Peter, transformed the outhouse at their home into a workshop, opening her own shop just months later.

Due to her football commitments, baking was once a hobby - but now Cake Corner is a thriving business, with big things coming in the next 12 months. She said: "I never saw this coming. The house isn't even on the corner of the road which is funny.

"Since I started I've never really looked back which is mad. The next step is to try and have an ice cream van-style food truck which I can take to food festivals.

"We're doing Southport Food Festival and the air show this year. We did the food festival last year but it will be even more of a challenge this year because we have the extra shop."
