Selena Gomez announces engagement to Benny Blanco as Taylor Swift jokes: 'I'll be the flower girl'

Selena Gomez has announced her engagement to record producer Benny Blanco in a heartfelt Instagram post.

On Tuesday, the Who Says singer posted close-up photos of her stunning marquise-cut diamond ring as well as a sweet video ringing a loved one to share the joyous news.

Captioning the post, she wrote: “Forever begins now...” while Blanco added his own excitement in the comments, writing: “Hey wait… that’s my wife.”

In her sweet social media post, she also shared a sweet photo of herself showing off her ring to the camera while Blanco, 36, embraced her and kissed her on the head.

The Grammy-nominated producer appeared to propose during a cosy nighttime picnic, complete with Taco Bell as part of the romantic setup.

The happy news sparked a flood of well wishes from her followers, which include a host of Hollywood stars.

Taylor Swift wrote: “Yes I will be the flower girl.”

Singer and model Suki Waterhouse posted: “Congratulations beauty!”

While Jennifer Aniston chimed in and said: “HONEY!! Congratulations sweet mama!”

Cardi B followed suit: “Waiiiitttt hold on”

Lily Collins said: “Ahhhhhhhh yes yes yes!! Best news ever. Couldn’t be more happy for you both”

Gomez began dating Blanco in June 2023, but she kept the relationship under wraps until December that same year.

She revealed the romance on Instagram, sharing with fans that she had been secretly seeing the hitmaker for six months and calling him her "absolute everything."

Before Blanco, the Wolves singer was romantically linked to several stars, including The Weeknd, Zedd, Nick Jonas, Taylor Lautner, Zayn Malik, and Andrew Taggart from The Chainsmokers.

Her most high-profile relationship was an on-again, off-again romance with Justin Bieber, 30, that lasted eight years before ending in 2018.

Bieber is now married to model Hailey Bieber, 28, and the couple welcomed their first child, a son, in August.

Gomez and Blanco were longtime friends before becoming romantically involved, having collaborated on music for over a decade. Blanco produced three of Gomez's biggest hits, including I Can't Get Enough (2019) and Same Old Love (2015).

Reflecting on their friendship and now relationship in April, Blanco, born Benjamin Joseph Levin, shared with SiriusXM Hits 1: “We both met each other like almost 16, 17 years ago.

“Obviously, we made a bunch of songs together. But before we had made any music together, I was one of her big meetings—like right around when she was just leaving Disney to make her own music."

During a May appearance on The Howard Stern Show in May, Blanco told Howard Stern that he could see marriage in his future with the former Disney actress.

He shared: “It was so crazy. When we went out on our first date, I didn't even know it was a date. She was like, 'Hey, you want to hang out?' And I was like, 'Yeah.'

“I remember we were talking and she's such a forward person and she's like the coolest, the nicest, the sweetest, everything. And I remember sitting there and she's like, ‘Well I would've worn something different for this date.’ And I was like, ‘What? We're on a date?’”

“She's truly my best friend," he later added. “We laugh all f**king day. She inspires me.”

Last month, Gomez opened up about their relationship in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, revealing how deeply Blanco has impacted her life.

The Emilia Perez star described him as the one person who has made her feel truly "safe" in a relationship.

“This is the safest I’ve ever felt, and I see a future with this person,” she shared.

Gomez also credited this sense of security with helping her feel more at ease about sharing glimpses of their relationship online.

“When you put a little bit out there, people aren’t as hungry to hunt you down,” she explained, referring to her decision to post photos and videos of the couple for fans to enjoy.

In a May interview with TIME, the Rare Beauty founder reflected on her relationship and admitted that if they hadn’t crossed paths, she was contemplating adopting a child within a few years.

She told the outlet: “I was alone for five years and I got really used to it. A lot of people are afraid of being alone and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it.

“Then I came up with my plan, which was I was going to adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone," she continued, referring to her relationship with Blanco ."It just happens when you least expect it.”

News of their engagement comes the same week as she received her first Golden Globe nominations.

Gomez has been nominated for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture category for her role in the crime musical Emilia Pérez as well as Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for her turn in Only Murders in the Building.
