Sega is ‘planning’ several remakes and spin-offs for this year

If there’s one thing Sega does reasonably well, it’s breathing new life into classic games. Sure, sometimes stuff doesn’t turn out great, like the recent House of the Dead remake, but hey — Streets of Rage 4 makes up for dozens of potential fumbles. The publisher isn’t done revisiting older franchises either.

On Friday, Sega released its annual earnings presentation. Most of it is (obviously) only of interest to investors, but the company briefly touched on plans for the next fiscal year. Between now and March 31, 2023, Sega plans to publish 13 games in total, several of which classify as remakes, remasters, or spinoffs.

Sega gave several examples of already-released games under this category, such as Sonic Colors: Ultimate, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, and Lost Judgement. Last fiscal year, the company sold approximately 4 million games in this classification.

We can only guess what these upcoming titles could be, though some are more obvious than others. The recently announced Sonic Origins collection has to be one, Soul Hackers 2 probably is too. As IGN notes,  Sega could be lumping the recent Switch re-release of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim in here too.

Beyond that, I have no idea, probably because many of these games haven’t got an announcement yet. Fingers crossed that Shinobi makes a return.
