Vexed Aberdeen legend Willie Miller has demanded no excuses are sought after his former side's shambolic 5-0 defeat to Hearts.
The club icon was left gutted after watching Jim Goodwin's team suffer travel sickness once again as Robbie Neilson's Jambos opened up a nine-point lead over their potential rivals for third spot in the Scottish Premiership. But European football is not on the mind of those of a Dons persuasion as they face a tricky looking Scottish Cup tie with Darvel on Monday.
Goodwin was left struggling to comprehend the pasting in Gorgie during his radio interview but did say to sorry to the club's supporters at the end of his mea culpa with the club's TV channel. Miller, though, reckons the time for mitigating factors is gone after a staggering eighth Premiership away defeat of the season. Speaking on BBC Sportsound, the Pittodrie legend said: "To think Aberdeen could finish third on the evidence of recent games, then that is not going to happen. Hearts were well ahead of Aberdeen and cruised it.
"There isn't really any excuse. You can analyse it all you want. It was torture and the away games have been torture this season. There has been enough proof that work had to be done defensively and a different style in away venues to turn the season around. It hasn't been and you have Darvel which won't be easy, then Hibs at Easter Road. If you don't get past that cup tie, dearie me, where do you go for the rest of the season? Jim looked as if he was struggling."
Ashen-faced Goodwin admits his side now face a monumental battle to win over supporters after their latest slapstick display. Speaking to club TV, he said: "We have to go down there (Darvel) and gain some respect back. That is what the object of that game will be, go down and put on a good performance and win the game convincingly.
"That is the only way we will earn the respect of the fans back after such a heavy defeat here. It's been a very embarrassing night, I'm sure they are sick of me apologising to them but that is all i can say right now. We are deeply sorry."
