See it: Giants fans cheer blocked field goal, loss to Saints

New York Giants fans delivered a powerful message of disapproval to co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch on Sunday, and they did it in a multitude of ways.

Before kickoff against the New Orleans Saints, a fan chartered a plane and flew a banner around MetLife Stadium that read, “Mr. Mara, enough. (Please) fix this dumpster fire.”

But that was just the start of the message. The second protest came after kickoff.

Despite temperatures in the 50s, seats were largely left empty and remained that way throughout the game. Some estimates placed the stadium at 45 percent to 55 percent full. A decently sized portion was made up of Saints fans, who were able to secure gameday tickets for as little as $1 (not a typo).

The final message came with just seconds remaining in the game.

Saints defensive tackle Bryan Bresee leaped over Giants rookie offensive lineman Jake Kubas and blocked a potential game-tying field goal from kicker Graham Gano, securing a 14-11 victory for New Orleans.

The fanbase that remained, many of whom were Giants fans, erupted in cheers and celebration. Whether sarcastic or genuine, they made sure Mara and Tisch heard them loud and clear amidst another embarrassing home loss.

“I cheered more for that block than anything this year,” one fan wrote on X. “Zero need to win that game.”

Sure, there were some Saints fans mixed in, but it’s clear just how frustrated Giants Nation has become. And if Sunday’s series of protests aren’t enough for Mara and Tisch to make necessary changes, perhaps a completely empty stadium in Week 15 will get the point across.
