See inside 'quirky' Moxy Hotel in Bristol as it opens to guests

A 'quirky' hotel which took years to build is finally open, and it looks amazing inside. Moxy Hotel, located on Newfoundland Circus by the M32, opened its doors today (May 4) after Covid caused major construction setbacks.

The £16million hotel is part of the Marriott chain, however it doesn't resemble a Marriott, with an open plan seating area, cocktail bar, and games zone making for a 'more social' vibe. Guests are welcomed with a free drink when they check in, as well as free WiFi and Chromecast TVs in all the rooms.

The 214-room hotel, which also has its own gym and library, is finally welcoming guests after its opening date was pushed back numerous times due to Covid and Brexit. It had hoped to open in early 2020, then Autumn 2020. That was then pushed back to spring 2021, autumn 2021 and March 2022.

The hotel celebrates the best of Bristol culture, specifically its artwork. On entry to the lobby, guests are greeted with a commissioned piece of art of St Pauls Carnival by local artist Bo Lanyon.

Other artists such as Lawrence Hoo and Lucas Antics have also made their mark on the hotel, with artwork which celebrates St Pauls and St Judes. Moxy says it worked with Bricks, a Bristol-based social enterprise, to "inject a bold and ultra-local collection of vibrant pieces of public artwork" into the hotel.

Moxy says each of its 214 rooms have been "thoughtfully mapped out" to maximize storage and space. "Cabin luggage can easily slide under the cleverly designed platform bed where the tech-smart sensory mood lighting system underneath automatically switches off when you’re ready to sleep," it said.

Guest rooms cost anywhere between £108 to £159 per night, with breakfast at an additional charge. Dogs are also welcome.

Melih Yanik, Moxy Bristol's general manager, said: "This hotel is in a fantastic location that you can’t miss as you enter into the city, opposite Cabot Circus. This highly anticipated opening is a great addition to Bristol.

"We’re more than ready to let the personality of this hotel shine through, revolutionising what’s available in the hotel arena and look forward to welcoming guests to see what we have created.”
