See inside plush Edinburgh flat where JK Rowling once stayed and wrote Harry Potter

An enchanting Edinburgh apartment, that JK Rowling stayed in, has gone on the market for half a million pounds.

The four bed property located in Marchmont Road has kept its traditional charm and a large communal garden.

Back in the early nineties, JK Rowling came to Edinburgh with her daughter and the early chapters of Harry Potter to stay with her sister Dianne and brother in-law, Roger, at 140 Marchmont road.

She only stayed for a short time before getting a place of her own but a plaque proudly sits above the doorway of this fine property.

It reads: "JK Rowling, world famous author, creator of Harry Potter, lived here for a spell in 1993."

Situated just one mile south of the old town, the bay windows creates a bright and airy feeling and the historic streets will likely be inspiring for writers alike.

The main living area has a generous space, complete with built in bookshelves and bay windows and a traditional fire place.

The fitted kitchen brings a modern touch to the apartment with an en-suite complementing one of the four double bedrooms.

Moving on outside, the communal garden has been well kept and the high walls offer privacy from neighbours. The decking is begging for good weather so that residents can sit and enjoy some Scottish sun.

Described as a "truly stunning flat", ESPC said: "This impressive, truly stunning first floor flat forms part of a handsome traditional tenement in the popular district of Marchmont, only a short walk away from excellent amenities, transport links, and the green spaces of The Meadows and Bruntsfield Links.

"The property is presented to the market in true move-in condition and provides flexible accommodation with stunning original features throughout.

"The spacious accommodation in brief comprises; secure entry system, welcoming entrance hallway with built-in storage, generously proportioned and bright lounge with corner bay window and beautiful feature fireplace, stunning fitted kitchen/dining with central island, fabulous master bedroom with bay window, three further well proportioned double bedrooms (one with en-suite shower room) and contemporary family bathroom with three-piece suite and rainfall shower over bath.

"Further benefits include gas central heating and excellent storage throughout. There is a fantastic, beautifully maintained communal garden quietly located to the rear of the property and parking in the area is by way of permit and meter."

The property is currently on the market for offers over £570,000 and can be viewed here.
