Work to the Northumberland Line is continuing with the construction of new stations and underpasses under way.
Six new stations will be built and 18 miles of track upgraded after the Government signed off on plans last year.
The Northumberland Line will provide a half-hourly service between Newcastle and Ashington - stopping at Bedlington, Bebside, Newsham, Seaton Delaval and Northumberland Park.
The project was given a major boost last year when a Transport and Works Act Order was granted for it to go ahead, authorising the closure of level crossings, land purchases and track works.
Work to build the six stations is now under way by Northumberland Line contractor Morgan Sindall, with the line expected to open towards the end of this year.
Palmersville Diary

Work to clear the site is under way at the site of the new station and once complete the area will be prepared for mining remediation works, which ensure the voids left by historic mining are completely filled in.
The works are expected to start this month and take between three and six months to complete.
