See how Gateshead pub The Black Bull has been transformed into a 'haunted house of horrors'

A Gateshead pub has gone all-out for spooky season, transforming its lounge into a stunningly ghoulish grotto.

The Black Bull, on Mulgrave Terrace, in Gateshead, has become famous for its spooky Halloween makeovers over recent years.

Managers Keith and Marion Shevill have built up their impressive collection of sinister decorations over the last seven years, and celebrations on night of October 31 have become a popular in customers' calendars.

Keith said things had changed slightly this year due to Covid-19 restrictions, with the pub's lounge becoming a 'ghoul's graveyard' since bands are no longer allowed to perform there.

Inside, a terrifying figure welcomes visitors to the "haunted house of horrors", where the decor includes skeletons, animated creatures, 7ft clowns, spider webs and a range of other ghouls.

Although the threat of a full national lockdown might be an even scarier one than ghosts or ghouls for pub owners at the moment, on Saturday night, the Black Bull's customers and owners intend to enjoy themselves.

"We love Halloween, as you can see," Keith said.

"As you come in through the scary door, this just takes your breath away,.

"What a wonderful sight. It's one mad night a year, but it warms the cockles of your heart, we absolutely love it."
