A number of roadworks are due to take place in the North East this week - and motorists are being advised to avoid these areas.
Some roads and streets are expected to be closed or will have temporary traffic measures in place. Our list below will help drivers to make allowances for these closures and alter their travel arrangements if necessary.
Diversion routes may also be in place on various roads, so people are urged to check if any of the works on this list are likely to disrupt their journeys. These road closures are for the week running Monday, September 5, to Sunday, September 11.

A1171 Northbound, Cramlington, closed due to roadworks from Crow Hall Lane to Northumbrian Road. Until 5th September.
Temporary traffic lights due to roundabout construction on A183 Chester Road, Burnmoor, at Houghton Le Spring turnoff. Until 16th September.
Temporary traffic lights due to telecoms work on A185 Shields Road, Heworth, at Station Road. Until 14th September.
Temporary traffic lights due to telecoms work on A186 Walker Road, Newcastle, at Modder Street. Until 7th September.
One lane closed due to roadworks on A189, Camperdown Industrial Estate, at A1056 Killingworth Way. On the roundabout. Near to High Gosforth Park. Until 7th April 2023.

Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on A191 Kenton Lane at Kenton Road. Until 5th September.

Browney Lane in both directions closed due to roadworks from A167 (Sunderland Bridge) to St Johns Road (Meadowfield). Until 12th December.
Temporary traffic lights due to electricity work on B1331 Ridge Terrace, Bedlington, at Westmorland Avenue. Until 5th September.
Temporary traffic lights due to telecoms work on B1426 Sunderland Road, Heworth, at Stoneygate Lane. Until 14th September.
Temporary traffic lights due to electricity work on B6291 Station Road, Coxhoe, at Blackgate West. Until 23rd September.
Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on B6317 Main Road, Ryton, at Hexham Old Road. Until 8th September.
Temporary traffic lights due to long-term roadworks on B6319 Ratcliffe Road, Haydon Bridge, near Church Street. Temporary lights will be in place while works are carried out on the bridge. Until 21st January 2023.

Traffic taking turns due to electricity work on Whitley Road at North Parade, in Whitley Bay. Until 9th September.
Narrow lanes and speed restriction of 50 mph due to major widening works on A1 Western Bypass in both directions from J67 Kingsway South (Coalhouse Roundabout) to A1(M) J65 / A194M Birtley. Work to create an extra lane in each direction. Until 31st May 2025.
West Holborn, South Shields, in both directions closed due to roadworks from Laygate Street to Weetman Street. Until 18:00 on 31st March 2023.
