Security officers were conducting a door-to-door sweep Wednesday at a North Dakota Air Force base after a report of a gunshot prompted a lockdown. The Grand Forks Air Force Base stated on social media that security received a report of a single gunshot near the medical clinic and base exchange around 1 p.m., leading to the lockdown as a precautionary measure.
As of mid-afternoon, no injuries had been reported, and the facility sweep was still ongoing. Grand Forks County Chief Deputy Sheriff Dave Stromberg confirmed that there is no active threat on the Air Force base, and base officials have not requested outside assistance.
The base's website indicates that the 319th Reconnaissance Wing, with 2,200 personnel, is stationed at the base, which is involved in air and space operations.
