Security Plan For Republican National Convention In Milwaukee Unchanged

Ecuador holds referendum on security measures to fight violence

The security plan for the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, set to begin on Monday, will not be altered following the tragic shooting incident at a rally for former President Donald Trump. Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson expressed confidence in both the Secret Service and the Milwaukee Police Department, emphasizing that the existing security measures are sufficient.

According to the Secret Service, there are no plans to increase security measures in response to the shooting. Audrey Gibson-Cicchino, the Secret Service's convention coordinator, affirmed that the current security plans will remain in place as scheduled.

Mayor Johnson highlighted that the city has been diligently preparing for the convention for the past 18 months, ensuring a high level of security readiness. He noted that Milwaukee holds the highest security designation for hosting the Republican National Convention.

Regarding concerns raised by Democratic Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers about allowing firearms in the 'soft perimeter' around the convention venue, Mayor Johnson explained that state laws restrict local authorities from imposing strict gun regulations. As a result, the decision to permit firearms in certain areas surrounding the event falls within the jurisdiction of state regulations.

The collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and event organizers aim to ensure the safety and security of all attendees and participants at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Despite recent events, officials remain confident in the effectiveness of the established security protocols.
