A SECTION of the M90 has been closed in both directions amid as firefighters tackle a blaze at a recycling plant.
Emergency services were called to Perth’s Lower Friarton Road shortly after 4.30am.
Police officers have closed off the Friarton Bridge, which passes over the River Tay, in both directions due to the amount of smoke.
In a statement on Twitter/X, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We are in attendance at a fire within a recycling centre on Lower Friarton Road, Perth.
“Due to large volumes of smoke we are asking people to avoid the area and close windows and doors in nearby homes.
“The Friarton Bridge on the M90 is also closed.”
First Minister John Swinney, who represents Perthshire North, urged people to follow the advice given.
A spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council said: “The Friarton Bridge is currently closed to traffic because of a fire in premises on Lower Friarton Road.
“Traffic will be diverted through Perth. Scottish Fire and Rescue is advising people living nearby keep their windows closed due to the volume of smoke.”
