Section of M8 shut down as mercy crews race to 'serious' Scots road crash

A section of Scotland's busiest motorrway has been shut down following a 'serious' road crash.

Emergency services including police and ambulance crews, are currently in attendance at Junction 4A of the M8 at Heartlands in West Lothian.

Motorists have been warned to expect delays of up to 90 minutes as diversions are in place at Junction 4A at Heartlands to B7066 in Harthill.

Vehicles have been advised to rejoin the M8 at Junction 5. A medical helicopter is reportedly in attendance to assist with the ongoing incident.

The extent of the collision and whether there are any injuries is currently unclear.

The A720 westbound between Calder and Baberton is currently restricted (Edinburgh Live/Traffic Scotland)

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Emergency services are at the scene of a crash on the M8 westbound near junction five at Harthill. The incident was reported shortly after 4pm on Monday, October 17.

“The road is currently closed.”
