UPDATE: All lanes are now running as normal and Traffic Scotland has confirmed the road has reopened.
A SECTION of the A9 in the Highlands has been forced to close on Monday morning (January 6) due to a collision.
In a post shortly after 7.45am, Traffic Scotland said that the A9 at Shalmstry (south of Thurso) was shut in both directions.
Drivers have been urged to avoid the area if they can.
The post read: “A9 – Shalmstry (south of Thurso). CLOSED in BOTH DIRECTIONS due to a collision.
“Please avoid the area, if at all possible.”
The National has approached Police Scotland for further comment.
