Secret Service Recommends Security Enhancements For Trump's Golfing Safety

Donald Trump to testify in New York civil fraud trial

Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe informed former President Donald Trump during a meeting at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida that significant security enhancements are necessary for Trump to continue golfing safely at his private clubs. This information was shared by three individuals familiar with the meeting.

Trump inquired about the safety of his golfing activities, which he enjoys as a favorite pastime. Rowe expressed concerns regarding the private courses due to the extensive space that needs to be secured and their proximity to public roads and spaces.

Rowe also mentioned that securing the golf course at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, a military course where past presidents like Barack Obama have played, is comparatively easier. He acknowledged that Trump's security detail, as a former president, is not as comprehensive as when he was in office.

Some of Trump's advisers have advocated for his ability to continue golfing, emphasizing its importance as a way for him to relax and socialize with allies.

During the meeting, Rowe outlined the current security protocols and available enhancements to Trump's security detail. The exchange was described as direct, matter-of-fact, and cordial by a source familiar with the meeting.

The Secret Service spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the matter. The New York Times initially reported on the conversation between Rowe and Trump.
