The U.S. Secret Service and FBI are actively investigating a video recorded by James Copenhaver, a victim of the July 13 assassination attempt on former President Trump. The video captured a figure moving across the roof of the building from which gunman Thomas Crooks fired shots.
The footage, shared exclusively with sources, was recorded at 6:08 p.m. on July 13, just minutes before Crooks opened fire at 6:11 p.m. before being neutralized by counter snipers.
In response to the video, the Secret Service has expressed its commitment to thoroughly understanding the events leading up to and following the assassination attempt to prevent such incidents in the future. The agency has assured full cooperation with Congress, the FBI, and other relevant investigations.
The FBI has acknowledged the existence of the video but refrained from providing further comments at this time.
The tragic incident resulted in the death of 50-year-old Corey Comperatore, a father and volunteer fire chief. Additionally, 74-year-old James Copenhaver and 57-year-old David Dutch sustained critical injuries during Crooks' attempt to assassinate the former president.
Fortunately, due to a split-second movement where Trump turned his head to view immigration statistics displayed on a screen, he narrowly avoided direct harm. A bullet grazed Trump's ear, but he was swiftly evacuated from the rally unharmed.
