A Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President Kamala Harris’ detail was removed from their assignment after displaying behavior that colleagues found “distressing,” the agency confirmed. The incident took place at Joint Base Andrews, just before the vice president's scheduled visit to Wisconsin.
According to Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, the agent exhibited behavior that raised concerns among their peers. The specific nature of the behavior was not disclosed. The agent was promptly relieved of their duties, and medical assistance was sought.
Vice President Harris was not present at the scene, as she was at the Naval Observatory during the incident. Her departure from the base was unaffected by the situation.
Guglielmi emphasized the Secret Service's commitment to the well-being of its employees, stating, “The U.S. Secret Service takes the safety and health of our employees very seriously. As this was a medical matter, we will not disclose any further details.”
At the time of reporting, Harris’ office had not responded to requests for comment on the incident. The initial report on this event came from the Washington Examiner.
