Alright, buckle up, folks! Whitney Leavitt from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has finally spilled the tea on why she waved goodbye to the infamous MomTok group, and let me tell you, the internet is more confused than ever. Lucky for you, I’ve made this show my entire personality (no regrets), so I’m here to break it down.
In a move that’s got everyone talking, Whitney decided to air her dirty temple garments on The Squeeze podcast, hosted by my childhood crush Taylor Lautner and his wife Taylor Lautner. No, that wasn’t a typo, they’re actually both named Taylor.
So, grab your 42 ounces of soda because we’re about to dive into the drama that’s shaking up MomTok.
Who is Whitney Leavitt?
For those of you who aren’t as obsessed with The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, let me catch you up. Whitney Leavitt is part of a group of Mormon mothers who live in Salt Lake City and are TikTokers — they call themselves MomTok. Don’t laugh, it’s very serious business.
The mums of MomTok are all the breadwinners of their family and aim to change the narrative around Mormon mothers, one renegade at a time. Whitney was portrayed as the ‘villain’ of the show and ultimately ended up leaving the MomTok group chat which was basically a cardinal sin the eyes of the other ladies. However, we never really got the full story on why Whitney left MomTok — until now.
What we learned from Whitney Leavitt’s appearance on The Squeeze podcast:
She asked to come on to the podcast
At the start of the podcast, the Taylors made it clear that they had reservations about Whitney coming on to chat as they generally avoided reality TV drama and stick to guests in the mental health space. Fans were quick to clock that this meant Whitney had asked to come on to the pod to address everything that went down on the show, which isn’t abnormal for a reality star to do, but it definitely had some people listen with a guard up.
The Park City truth box debacle
Whitney revealed that the infamous “truth box” incident was the beginning of the end for her MomTok journey. It turns out that calling exposing everyones secrets on national television isn’t the best way to make friends. Who knew?
But the real kicker came when Demi Engemann allegedly shared Whitney’s deep, dark secret with the group.
“Demi had shared a very personal and very vulnerable story of mine that I had no idea she had shared until that evening,” Whitney lamented.
The secret? Apparently, during a ketamine treatment (because that’s a totally normal Mormon activity), Whitney admitted she did her viral Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) dance video for clout. Whitney posted a TikTok dance with her infant who was undergoing treatment at the time for RSV.
Whitney explained that she only found out that Demi had let her ketamine confession slip when another girl in the group, Mayci Neeley, told her before they all headed to dinner.
“That scene where I have toilet paper on my heel and we’re all at that dinner, I couldn’t compose myself because right before that Mayci has asked me if that was true. I just couldn’t believe that, regardless of you telling the other woman, that you had brought that on a national television show.”
The RSV Dance Debacle
Speaking of that infamous RSV dance, Whitney now claims she regrets bringing it up on the show.
“I willingly did that, which I wish I didn’t,” she confessed. It’s almost as if dancing to your child’s illness for likes isn’t a great look. Who would’ve thought?
The truth about the Fruity Pebbles fiasco
For context, Demi had shared with her fellow MomTokkers that she had once used Fruity Pebbles during a sex act with her husband. Whitney then thought it would be funny to gift Demi a box of Fruity Pebbles at a party she was hosting. Demi did not see the humour.
However, Whitney revealed she had actually called Demi before gifting her the infamous Fruity Pebbles, so her reaction at the party left Whitney feeling “sabotaged”.
“I had called Demi ahead of time asking if it was okay because I knew that was sensitive and very private sexual innuendo between their relationship,” Whitney explained.
Demi, not one to let sleeping dogs lie, fired back on TikTok with the subtlety of a sledgehammer: “All I can say is one of us knows how to take accountability and the other doesn’t. You do the math!” The girls are fighting.
Will Whitney be in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 2?
Despite the drama, Whitney claims she has “no ill feelings” towards her former MomTok members. She’s even “excited for more seasons”, though it’s unclear if she’ll be part of them. Maybe she’ll make a guest appearance, and flaunt yet another hair colour. No, seriously she had like five different hair colours throughout the season, her hair stylist needs a raise.
What does the rest of MomTok think?
The reaction from the other MomTok members has been about as warm as a Utah winter. Mikayla Matthews, usually the quieter of the bunch, broke her silence to express her disappointment as Whitney “continue[d] to play victim”.
Meanwhile, Demi insists that all the drama was real, not staged, and any recent friendly TikToks with Whitney were just contractual obligations. Got to get your bag I guess.
In the end, Whitney summed up her bonkers experience on reality TV and said,”That’s the game, I guess.”
Indeed, Whitney. Will there be redemption? Reconciliation? Another season of cereal-related drama? And most importantly, will MomTok survive this. Only time (and ratings) will tell!
