Secret fallout behind Lighthouse Family split as member claims of 'one-sided' dynamic

It was reported earlier that music duo the Lighthouse Family have split up after almost 30 years, but it's now been suggested that there's been tension behind-the-scenes.

The band - which consisted of singer Tunde Baiyewu and keyboardist Paul Tucker, both 53 - had formed as a group in 1993 but are now said to have gone their separate ways.

A statement, signed by Paul, was issued on the band's social media accounts yesterday which stated that Tunde wants to focus on solo projects instead of them continuing as duo.

This has however been denied by Tunde's rep, who told us that Paul has "seized control" of the band's social media accounts and that the group has become "one-sided."

In a statement to the Mirror this afternoon, Tunde's rep responded to the recent events: "Paul's announcement on Lighthouse Family social platforms is not a joint statement."

The spokesperson further commented: "For over a year now, Paul has seized control of all Lighthouse Family social media accounts and denied Tunde access to any of them despite several requests to reinstate his access."

The rep said Tunde - who has released two solo albums over the years - was "disappointed" to read that Paul had "unilaterally" put out a statement "without consulting him."

The singer's rep stated that the claim that Tunde wants to focus on his solo career is "simply not true," with the spokesperson adding that the partnership isn't the same.

"He's decided not to continue with any [Lighthouse Family] band live work for the foreseeable future because over the years [their] spirit has become unrecognisable," they said.

The rep concluded: "It has become increasingly one-sided rather than a partnership and [Tunde] feels the joy of what they created together is no longer there."

The statement on the band's accounts, signed by Paul, read: "I'm so sad to let you know that after almost thirty years we have reached the end of our Lighthouse Family journey."

Fans were thanked for their support, with an apology then issued in the statement to those who had bought tickets to see them perform at a music festival in the coming weeks.

Organisers of the Mouth of the Tyne festival in Tynemouth - which was due to feature Lighthouse Family as a headline act on July 9 - are believed to be issuing refunds to fans.

Discussing pulling out of it, Paul said: "I have tried everything with our agents and promoters over the last few weeks to make this work but we just couldn't get it over the line."

The statement continued: "Tunde now wants to focus on his solo career and I wish him all the best." It then issued an apology to promotors of the festival and affected fans.

Paul said he was "really looking forward" to the hometown show, concluding the statement: "I am as disappointed as you are. It breaks my heart to let you down."

The Mirror approached reps for Paul for comment.
