An Ayrshire venue has launched an innovative way to help tackle food poverty over the summer holidays.
With roughly a third of Ayrshire kids living in poverty and the cost of living crisis piling on the pressure for families, every little helps.
The Brass and Granite, which has now reopened under new management, have launched a scheme that helps to feeds kids but also tries to minimise the stigma of asking for help.
The Kilmarnock boozer says parents are welcome to message their Facebook page with a special code word and kids can get a free sandwich, drink and packet of crisps.
They posted on Facebook: "With Schools finishing up for summer, we had a thought and done some research.
"Do you know how many kids will go hungry in the UK during the holidays?
"Over 3 million kids. To us this is unacceptable. No kid should go hungry!
"We have decided to do our bit for our local community.
"Starting from 30/06/2022 if your child or if you know of a child going hungry we will provide a sandwich, Fruit Shoot and crisps free of charge.
"Orders need to be in before 7pm the night before (Fb message) and then collected the following day from the Brass & Granite.
"Now we know this can be an embarrassing thing for anyone so we have came up with a code phrase to use. 'I called earlier about my kids toy that was left yesterday'. All our team know this phrase and no fuss will be made.
"Please share this but we ask you don't tag people although if you hit share you can send in messenger to someone."
