'Secret' Batgirl screenings being held before Warner Bros bins superhero flick

The Batgirl movie is reportedly being screened 'in secret' for 'a select few' prior to the footage is cast aside by Warner Bros.

Earlier this month, the shock cancellation of the $90m superhero flick - the first movie to be entirely shot in Glasgow - sparked widespread anger from film fans here in the city - and across the globe.

And while it won't be shown on HBO screens or in the cinema, some lucky people are getting to see it on the Warner Bros. lot this week, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

The screenings - described in the industry as 'funeral screenings' held before the death knell sounds for the movie - are said to be for those who worked on the seven-month shoot - the cast, crew and their representatives and executives.

In the wake of the news of the screenings, actress Ivory Aquino, who was set to play the role of Batgirl's best friend and roommate, penned an emotional open letter to Warner Bros CEO and President David Zaslav asking him to "consider releasing" the movie.

Referencing the outcry across the globe after the movie was scrapped, she wrote: "If a month ago, there wasn’t a marketing budget for Batgirl, I’d venture to say that that has been taken care of by the turn of events these past few weeks.

"We’ve been fortunate to have such amazing supporters since the beginning from Glasgow where we filmed and from all over the world.

"Now, more people know about our labor of love and are eager to see the movie.

"I do hope you get to read this letter. Consider releasing Batgirl. She’s always been an underdog and has nowhere to go but up."
