NEW YORK — Buses packed with migrants from the southern border are arriving at Port Authority bus terminal as a second wave of asylum-seekers heads to NYC.
Mayor Eric Adams has issued a dire warning that New Yorkers should brace for more than 1,000 new migrants arriving every week an that the strain on the city’s finances could lead to potential cuts in critical city services.
Two buses arrived earlier Monday morning and two more pulled into the midtown bus terminal shortly before 1 p.m. local time.
Representatives from City Hall and social service agencies are on hand to meet the new arrivals. The National Guard is on site as well.
Title 42, a key Biden administration policy on immigration expires this week, opening the border to increase immigration.
Adams said Sunday that state and federal government officials have “mostly ignored” pleas from the city for money and support to cope with asylum-seekers in desperate need of help, the mayor said in a statement.
“Our shelter system is full, and we are nearly out of money, staff and space,” Adams said. “This can’t continue.”
